Defender CSD 50 Stone Consolidator & Water Repellent

Defender CSD 50 is a premium penetrating stone consolidator and water repellent designed to strengthen weak, porous, and deteriorating mineral surfaces while providing long-lasting protection against water ingress and environmental damage.

Specially formulated for heritage restoration and fragile substrates, Defender CSD 50 penetrates deep into the surface to bind weakened mineral structures, increase durability, and protect against moisture, chloride ions, salt attack, mould, and freeze-thaw damage. It is particularly effective on limestone, sandstone, concrete, and masonry where conventional sealers often fail.

Coverage Guide

Coverage depends on the porosity of the substrate.

Highly porous surfaces

• Approximately 5–10m² per litre per coat

Dense, less porous surfaces

• Approximately 10–20m² per litre per coat

Actual coverage will vary depending on the surface condition.

Directions for Use

Surface Preparation

• Read the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) before use.

• Always test in an inconspicuous area before full application.

• Ensure surfaces are clean, dry and free from dirt, contaminants and previous treatments.

• New installations should cure for a minimum of 48 hours (some concrete installations may require up to 7 days).

• Do not apply in direct sunlight.

• Apply only when the surface temperature is between 10°C and 28°C.

• Do not apply if rain is expected within 2 hours.

• If rain has recently occurred, allow the surface to dry for at least 24 hours.

Application

1. Apply 1–2 generous coats using a roller, sprayer or polish applicator.

2. Saturate the surface evenly, ensuring it remains visibly wet for at least 30 seconds.

3. On vertical surfaces, apply from the bottom upwards to prevent streaking.

4. Allow the product to penetrate for 5–10 minutes.

5. If required, apply a second coat after 20–30 minutes.

6. Remove any remaining excess product after the final coat using an absorbent towel.

7. If dried residue remains, remove using Methylated Spirits.

8. Allow 6–12 hours before light foot traffic.

9. Keep the surface dry for 24 hours.

10. Full cure is achieved within 24–48 hours.

Adhesive Compatibility

If tiles are sealed before installation, standard water-based adhesives may not bond correctly.

Recommended polymer-modified adhesives include:

• Davco SE-7 (with Davelastic)

• Mapei Granirapid

Important Information

• Ready to use – no dilution required.

• Not suitable for sub-terrain waterproofing.

• Avoid prolonged exposure to strong acids, alkalis and solvents after treatment.

• Highly absorbent surfaces may require two coats.

Defender CSD 50 provides premium protection for up to 15 years under normal conditions. Performance will vary depending on traffic levels, substrate type, weather exposure and cleaning methods. In severe environments, reapplication is recommended every 8–12 years.
